Alirio A Parra was Venezuela’s Minister of Energy and Mines from 1992 to 1994 and head of its OPEC delegation. He is a past President of the OPEC Conference and of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE). As Minister of Energy and Mines he was Chairman of the Stockholders Assembly of PDVSA. As a member of the Presidential Commission on Oil Nationalisation in 1975, Dr Parra participated in the smooth transition of the Venezuelan oil industry to the then newly created Petroleos de Venezuela S.A., of which he became a founding Board Member. During Dr Parra’s 15-year tenure on the Board of PDVSA he helped shape the national oil company into a highly efficient entity that significantly increased the reserves position of the country, initiated the development of Orinoco heavy crudes, modernised the downstream including the revamping of the refinery sector in Venezuela and integrated abroad both into US and European markets. Dr Parra is a previous President of the International Association of Energy Economists (1988), and a past Chairman of the British Institute of Energy Economics (1997) and the Oxford Energy Policy Club (1984-95). He has also been a Member of the International Advisory Board of Total S.A. He is currently a Director and Senior Associate of The CWC Group and chairman of the Advisory Board of the Energy Intelligence Group (EIG), Washington DC. He is Vice-President of the Anglo-Venezuelan Society, London. In October 2006, he was elected an Honorary Fellow of the British Institute of Energy Economics.

 Dr Levi Chibuike Ajuonuma, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), is a vastly experienced PR and advertising practitioner. He joined NNPC in 2003 and has been responsible for policy formulation and development of programmes of action in the areas of Community Relations and Sustainable Development, Government Liaison and Media Relations. Prior to his appointment, he was Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LASOM Communications Limited, a Consortium of Media and Public Relations consultants, one of whose programmes was Levi Ajuonuma Live.  Dr Levi Ajuonuma obtained his PHD in Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota USA (1987). He has an MBA, (majoring in Marketing), an MA in Mass Communication, and a Diploma in International Radio and Radio/Television presentations. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Nigerian Institute of Management, International Communications Association and the Minnesota Press Club. Dr Eugene H Shannon is a Liberian, born in Robertsport, Grand Cape County, Republic of Liberia. Engr Ernest Chukwuemeka Nwapa (MNSE) was recently appointed the Ag Executive Secretary Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board, which is responsible for implementing the Nigerian Content Act. Until this appointment he was the Group General Manager, Nigerian Content Division of the NNPC. He joined the NNPC as a Project Engineer in 1983 following graduation from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1982 and has successfully executed several key projects as Design Engineer, Construction Superintendent and Project Manager. Avhapfani (Fani) Tshifularo is the Executive Director of the South African Petroleum Industry Association (SAPIA), where he is responsible for the day- to-day leadership of the organisation and for its effective management. SAPIA members are BP, Chevron, Engen, Sasol, Shell, Total and PetroSA. SAPIA represents the collective interests of the South African petroleum industry.

As part of his role at SAPIA, Fani also serves as Non-Executive Director at the South African Supplier Development Agency (SASDA). Paul has extensive oil and gas industry experience having worked for Shell International for twelve years, followed by a further nine years with independent companies, most recently with Hunt Oil and Pioneer Natural Resources. Osam Iyahen heads the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) oil and gas industry activities. Osam has over eight years practical experience in the upstream oil and gas sector from involvement in multi-billion dollar development projects with ExxonMobil, Shell, and Chevron. He has also been involved in upstream advisory engagements with BoozAllen & Hamilton and Petroleum Finance Corporation (PFC Energy). Osam obtained his MBA from Cornell University.  

His experiences include senior commercial roles in ExxonMobil’s West African Business Services Organisation in Houston, where he worked on landmark West African projects in Angola, Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria. Osam has also participated in oil & gas advisory work for the Qatari government involving the conception and development of an Energy City project, led a project team in deploying an integrated operations facility in Oman, and advised several US independents during previous Nigerian oil and gas licensing round on bidding strategies.

Anton-Louis Olivier is a project developer in the clean and sustainable energy sector and has worked on energy projects in over twenty countries in Africa and Latin America.

Anton-Louis was born and bred in Pretoria, South Africa. After qualifying as a Mechanical Engineer, he completed a Masters Degree in Development and Environmental Economics, both at the University of Pretoria.

Following on five years consulting work on renewable energy projects across Southern Africa, Anton-Louis joined the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Denmark in 1999.

He left UNEP in 2001 to establish NuPlanet, a project development and management company based in the Netherlands. After three years in Europe, he moved to South Africa where he is now the Managing Director of NuPlanet South Africa, a dedicated hydro power developer, owner and operator.

From November 1993 to November 2006, Dr Surridge was engaged by the Department of Minerals and Energy, first as a Deputy Director and then from April 1995 as a Director. During this period he has been responsible for matters related to electricity, renewable energy, environment, energy efficiency, energy database, coal and gas and petroleum. He drafted South Africa’s first National Integrated Energy Plan, inter alia drafted four pieces of legislation, negotiated a number of international agreements, represented South Africa at numerous international gatherings including the Kyoto Protocol negotiations and served on numerous committees and working groups.

He qualified as a Civil Engineer and spent some years in research posts with the CSIR in both Building Technology and Oceanology (Maritime Structures) before moving to the oilfield where he has been employed by Schlumberger for nearly twenty-three years. After a foundation in Well Testing, Nick moved from Field Engineering and Supervision to Project Engineering to Segment Line Management, general Oilfield Services Management and currently falls into the Marketing Group. He has worked in some form or another in over thirty countries, spending anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of years in any given location. His current coverage includes eight countries and over eighty oil companies, both as operators or partners.
